Rogue VS Player

Quick link to the PvP guide

Here comes a BIG chapter. When you are PvPing out in the open your best friend is surprise. If you opponent doesn't know you are coming he's probably off guard and that can help you a lot. Do always use crippling poison since you don't want your enemy to run away. If you have crippling poison on your main hand you will by almost 100% cripple your enemy if you do the first hit. One poison I would NOT use is deadly poison. Why? Because it breaks disorients like gouge and blind and that is a hard hit to not be able to gouge.

Stunlock in PvP.

The idea with the Rogue class is to stun your opponent, making him unable to fight back, to let you have the control. The talents you need for this is either heavy Combat, a Subtlety/Assassination (21/8/22 or hemorrhage) or a heavy Assassination. Of these builds the one with Hemorrhage is the best for stunlocking. Both Assassination and Combat can stun a lot but is more focused on damage.

The order in which you must use your abilities is very much the same what ever build you use to contain your stunlock. This is a very classic combo which locks your opponent down very much.

In order to link every stun without letting there be a gap, you must either have Vigor, Improved Cheap Shot or Adrenaline Rush.

CS->(AR)SS or HEMO->Gouge->KS->BS or SSx3 or HEMOx2->blind

Enter Stealth

What you do after the Blind depends on your Build how much health your opponent has left and your number of combo points. But a CS->Gouge followed by Eviscerate is good for almost all builds.

CS->(CB)Eviscerate->gouge is an option if you have 5 combo points and relentless attacks.

Most classes that need stunlocking (rogues/hunters/casterform-druids) will be dead after that combination.

Ambush and Backstab in PvP.

The second idea with the Rogue class is to kill you target with big burst damage. This only works against targets with few hit points and low armor, Mages, Priests, Rogues and Druids (in cat/casterform). Ambush and Backstab is the two abilities that you must rely on to get huge damage in early in fights. To make them crit you must have Imp BS, Imp Amb. and opportunity to increase the damage dealt.

The builds to use for dagger damage is either heavy Assassination or Assassination/Subtlety (21/8/22).

It takes a long time to regenerate the energy needed for more attacks after an “Ambush->gouge->BS” combo so you will be very vulnerable if the target isn’t dead quickly.

Battle Grounds

This is a big chapter. Speed and team work is more important here than your individual performance. Read more Here!

General advice in PvP

Mind the diminishing returns. Try to always do fresh gouges and Kidney Shots or else the energy used will be wasted. The duration they are diminished is 15 seconds from the moment their effect expires from your target. Remember that Sap and Gouge share the same diminishing timer. Abilities that get diminished: CS, Gouge, KS, Sap and Blind. Gouge and sap share diminishing returns, very important.

Stun Resistance. Orcs, Priests and some warriors have stun resistance.

Most priests have the 15% stun resistance talent giving you problems with CS. The way to avoid resisted CS is to use ambush instead. Don’t use KS, use Eviscerate or EA instead.

Defensive warriors can have 15% stun resistance. You cannot know what talents they have but be ready to deal with the resists you might get fighting these.

Orcs, should have their racials nerfed, has 25% base stun resistance. Orcs classes: warriors, warlocks, hunters, rogues and shamans. These do therefore, without any gear/talents have 25% chance to resist your stuns. The way to deal with orcs is to not attack them. Especially hunters and warlocks are dangerous as they need tight stunlocking. Of course horde players don’t have to deal with orcs in the same way as alliance.

Gouge can be used for re stealthing. When ever you get the chance of stealthing, hit your stealth hotkey. But keep in mind that moving away form players to restealth might let them run away leaving you behind.
